Project Background:

The Chief Overdrive transmission project commenced by Mark Hanlon of Hanlon Engineering, post discussions on the limitations of Indian Chiefs. The engineering process, starting in March 1999, involved overcoming several design constraints and challenges, culminating in a transmission that preserves the original three-speed gearbox’s gear ratios and adds an overdrive gear for highway cruising. The detailed design, which took over 2500 man hours, was created using a three-dimensional solid modeling program.
